Lincoln City missed out on the League One play-off spots as champions Portsmouth won 2-0 at LNER stadium in the final game of the season.

The Imps had a penalty saved early on in the second half as Will Norris kept out Daniel Mandroiu's effort.

The Blues took the lead with 10 minutes remaining, Myles Peart-Harris sliding the ball home and crushing Lincoln's hopes before Paddy Lane netted late on to wrap up victory.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho's former side - Oxford United - sneaked into the fifth play off sport as a result of Portsmouth's win and Northampton Town scoring a late equaliser against Barnsley.

Portsmouth came close to opening the scoring a number of times in the first half via Colby Bishop, while Chelsea loanee Tino Anjorin had the ball in the back of the net only for the referee to rule it out, halting play after a collision between two players in the build-up.

The second half started well for the hosts, winning a penalty in the 52nd minute. But Daniel Mandroiu slipped as he took the spot-kick and Pompey stopper Will Norris prevented the Imps from taking the lead.

Portsmouth should have gone ahead with 20 minutes as Jack Sparkes looked destined to slide the ball home but Lukas Jensen made an impressive save.

Norris then produced a stunning stop to tip the ball over the bar before the champions took the lead with 10 minutes remaining, Peart-Harris finishing off a flowing move.

Lane struck in added time as Portsmouth finished the season on 97 points, five clear of runners-up Derby County.

    Unlucky our friends at Lincoln on your play off push, was fitting to hear your tribute to the 56 that lost they lives at Bradord, we also just missed out on a play off spot, all the best next season.

    It's been a memorable season , a really good squad with so many alternatives playing great football .John Mousinho and everyone connected with Pompey deserve every credit . A bit sorry for Lincoln , hope they keep their run going and make it next year .

    To say Portsmouth has six reserves in the team just showed how strong there squad is, the quality of the players and movement with the ball showed, but it's a benchmark for City to emulate because next season will be tougher to reach the playoffs than this season.

    I thought Lincoln would walk this one, in a way I'm pleased for Oxford as they've been among it all season, I can only think Mouse wanted the points today to complete his excellent season by giving his old team a chance at glory and possibly making it a double celebration for him.

    Imps fan here, Congrats to Portsmouth, in that first half played like champions class all over the pitch, Anjorin the standout.
    But the 2nd half lots of dark arts almost like a team wanting a draw to stay up.
    The penalty moment and the ref changed the outcome of the game.
    No shame in losing!

    Missed a great chance, it was put on a plate for Lincoln, another penalty, laughable result . Pompy nothing to play for and Oxford just getting over the line at Exeter.
    Reflecting on the season , fortunate either result against Leyton Orient and Fleetwood having wrong player sent off . Disappointment at Northampton and 16 matches when squad was depleted .
    Sad end to an amazing turnaround .

    Great end of season run for the Imps, but can’t say I’m upset to see them fall at the crucial last hurdle. Manager antics, fist pumps, antagonising the opposition, time wasting and feigning injury seemed strangely missing in this game once missed the pen. Dark arts have their place. Think they call it 7th.

    A good performance from Pompey and I must say a very professional display seeing there was nothing in it for Pompey.
    A great performance and a MOM from Towler. Seeing it was only his 3rd start of the season.
    Ref was brilliant NOT. Awful all afternoon 13 yellow cards he couldn’t wait to book people from Pompey.

    If you're wondering about players missing today, one I can't help you with but the other I heard a rumour is retiring, we'll know more in a week or two I'd imagine, both can hold their heads up high and whatever next they both made it happen for us this season.

    Impressive performance by Pompey in the first half, dominating the game. Ironic that the two goals came in the 2nd half when Lincoln switched on, but I guess they had to throw men forward. Felt a bit sorry for them.
    Towler looked good but I'm still unsure about Peart Harris despite his goal.
    Looking forward to thrashing those clowns from up the road next season.

    One thing for certain next season L1 will be very competitive, I see 10 teams & as many as 12 that will be there next season all in contention, all 3 coming down will be strong, 3 out of 4 in this P/O, Wrexham coming up and the Reading, Charlton, Blackpool, Wigan, Wycombe and a wild card coming up with Wrexham, can't rule out BR, LO Northampton or Stevenage either if they strengthen.

    I think it speaks volumes for the Pompey squad that Mous was able to change the team around so often, and still get the results. He is also one of the few managers who can make substitutions that actually improve the performance on the day.
    Also, we only lost five games all season, and one of them was when the players were all hungover!
