Luke Chambers and Josh Magennis spoilt Portsmouth's League One promotion party as Wigan beat the newly-crowned champions at Fratton Park.

Pompey almost took the lead after six minutes when a poor backpass was intercepted by Colby Bishop, who tried to chip stranded goalkeeper Sam Tickle but put it well wide.

Wigan's Jonny Smith hit a post in the 13th minute, but the visitors took the lead 10 minutes later when Chambers put the loose ball past Pompey goalkeeper Will Norris.

Latics should have gone two-up just before half-time as Norris parried Charlie Kelman's powerful shot but Chambers put the follow-up wide.

Despite half-time substitutions, Pompey struggled to claw their way back into the game and Wigan looked to have sealed the win when Magennis beat Norris with seven minutes to go.

Kusini Yengi pulled one back for Pompey, but despite piling on the pressure in stoppage time they could not secure a 28th victory of the season.

At 73 I can't quite " Jump up and down as Champions " as the chant suggests, but this season as a supporter for sixty plus years has been unbelievable, thank you players, staff, supporters, and Mr Eisner. PUP Strong Island. Can't wait for the new season.

We have beaten the top four all away from home ( five of the top six and drawn the other ) and yet couldn’t beat any of the bottom four on their own patch. Sort that stat out and we will be a real threat next season. Congratulations Pompey ! respects from Wigan.

Very much the morning after . . . Nice the Wigan fans joined in so everyone went home happy . The number of players in the presentation shows the achievement of being Champions with such a long injury list and the real togetherness of the squad John Mousinho has managed so well . Pack has been a great skipper and we've played some terrific football . Onwards and upwards to the Championship .

Congratulations Pompey on winning the league. Even better to see that you've done it without paying ridiculous wages and getting into huge debts like other L1 winners have done in the past. That, plus your tremendous support, should ensure you flourish in the Championship.

Wigan fan here. Congratulations to Portsmouth on winning League One, and gaining promotion to the Championship! I watched some of the video from Fratton Park on Tuesday night, those were impressive scenes! I was wondering if you'd still be on that high today? Six of your Tuesday night starting eleven started today, and two came off the bench. I'll still gladly take the three points today!

Last week you thought there might be a hangover from your mission accomplished. I said you were entitled to relax and no one would mind. I meant Wigan of course, hoping for a draw. Pompey is a favourite of mine, both town and team. We had dear friends who lived in Lee on Solent and the highlights of our visits included a visit there. Good luck next season. Hope we can join you some day.

Bit of a dead rubber: Pompey already up, us mid table not going up or down... neither team has much to play for in reality, so not expecting much from the game... if either team's going to go for it, I suspect it'll be Pompey for the 100 points, and fair play to them. They've been to drawer all season, they deserve it. Still, would be nice to give them a game. Time will tell haha
